Tram line 6 in Melbourne
Tram line 6 runs between Moreland Station in Coburg and Malvern Rd/High St in Glen Iris, serving 65 stops.
The line links Coburg, Brunswick East and Carlton with Melbourne University and the city centre before continuing southeast through the St Kilda Road corridor, Prahran, Armadale, Malvern and Glen Iris. Along the way, it serves RMIT University, Melbourne Central, Federation Square, the Melbourne Arts Precinct, Anzac Station, Prahran and Armadale railway stations, and the High Street shopping districts.
The present route was created on 1 May 2017, when the former Line 8 was withdrawn. Line 6, which had previously operated between Melbourne University and Glen Iris, was extended north over the former Line 8 route to Moreland.
From Moreland Station, Line 6 runs east along Moreland Road through Coburg, crossing the Sydney Road tram corridor before turning south into Holmes Street. It continues through Brunswick East, joining Lygon Street near Albion Street and following it south through Brunswick East and Carlton. At Elgin Street, the line turns west before joining Swanston Street beside Melbourne University.
Line 6 follows Swanston Street through central Melbourne, serving RMIT University, Melbourne Central, Bourke Street Mall, City Square and Federation Square. It crosses the Yarra River on Princes Bridge and continues along St Kilda Road, passing the Melbourne Arts Precinct, Shrine of Remembrance and Anzac Station.
At High Street, the line turns east and travels through Windsor and Prahran, crossing the Chapel Street tram corridor and serving Prahran railway station. It continues through Armadale and Malvern, serving Armadale railway station and crossing the Glenferrie Road tram corridor. The final section follows High Street through Glen Iris to the Malvern Rd/High St terminus, near Glen Iris railway station.
