Tram line 35 in Melbourne
Tram line 35, known as the City Circle, is a free tourist service operating clockwise around central Melbourne from Waterfront City in Docklands. A complete journey makes 27 scheduled stop calls before returning to Waterfront City.
The line is operated by Melbourne's heritage W-class trams and links Docklands with the northern, eastern and southern edges of the central business district. It serves destinations including Docklands Stadium, Melbourne Central, State Library Victoria, Parliament, Federation Square, Flinders Street Station and Melbourne Aquarium.
Line 35 has operated in the clockwise direction only since 30 October 2023. The section between Waterfront City and Central Pier forms a short tail that is travelled at both the beginning and end of each circuit.
From Waterfront City, Line 35 runs along Docklands Drive via Harbour Esplanade to Central Pier. It then enters the main circuit, serving Docklands Stadium before crossing the railway approaches to Southern Cross Station and continuing east along La Trobe Street. The route serves Flagstaff Station, Melbourne Central and State Library stations and Exhibition Street before reaching Victoria Street.
The line continues to Nicholson Street and turns south through East Melbourne. It passes Albert Street and Parliament before following Spring Street to Flinders Street.
Line 35 then runs west along Flinders Street, serving Federation Square, Flinders Street Station and Melbourne Aquarium. After passing Spencer Street, it returns to Docklands and follows Harbour Esplanade north past South Wharf, Docklands Park and the Bourke Street stadium precinct. At Central Pier it rejoins the shared tail and continues along Harbour Esplanade and Docklands Drive to Waterfront City.
