The service connects Sarajevo’s main railway station and the nearby main bus station with Ilidža. It joins the main tram corridor near the museums and university campus, then continues through the western residential districts.
The short railway station branch links the terminus with the main corridor. Journeys towards Ilidža serve Muzej, while returning trams serve the separate Tehnička škola stop before reaching the railway station.
From Željeznička stanica, trams leave the station forecourt and follow Halida Kajtaza to join Zmaja od Bosne. They serve Muzej and Univerzitet before continuing west through Pofalići, Socijalno and Dolac Malta.
The route follows Bulevar Meše Selimovića through Čengić Vila, Otoka and Alipašin Most, passing the RTV broadcasting complex and Alipašino Polje. Beyond Nedžarići, it continues through Stup and along the western corridor to the terminus at Ilidža.
Returning trams follow the same corridor back to Univerzitet, then turn onto the railway station branch. They serve Tehnička škola before ending at Željeznička stanica.

Željeznička stanica is a tram terminus located outside Sarajevo’s main railway station, on Trg žrtava Srebrenice.
The stop is also served by tram line 1 and provides connections to bus and rail services.
Nedžarići is a tram stop located on Bulevar Meše Selimovića, next to the junction with Dzemala Bijedica St. There is a turning loop to the west of the stop, allowing it to function as a terminus if required.
The stop is also served by tram lines 3, 5, 6 and 11 and provides connections to bus services.
On journeys towards Željeznička stanica, trams follow the shared corridor back to Univerzitet, then serve Tehnička škola before reaching the railway station.
Tehnička škola is a tram stop located on Halida Kajtaza, next to the junction with Zmaja od Bosne. The stop is next to the Technical High School, which it is named after.
