The service connects Sarajevo’s historic centre with its main railway station and the nearby main bus station. It shares the central tram corridor as far as Marijin Dvor before taking the short railway station branch.
Trams follow different routes through central Sarajevo in each direction. Journeys from Baščaršija serve Katedrala, Banka and Park before continuing towards the station. Returning trams serve Muzej and Marijin Dvor, then follow the riverside route through Skenderija, Pošta, Drvenija, Latinska ćuprija and Vijećnica.
From Baščaršija, the route heads west through the historic centre, passing the cathedral and continuing along Maršala Tita to Marijin Dvor. It then serves Tehnička škola before turning onto the branch along Halida Kajtaza, ending outside the railway station on Trg žrtava Srebrenice.
Leaving the station, trams return to the main corridor and serve Muzej, close to the National Museum and History Museum. They continue through Marijin Dvor before joining the riverside route along the Miljacka.
The return journey passes Skenderija, the main post office, Drvenija Bridge, Latin Bridge and City Hall before completing the central circuit back to Baščaršija.

Katedrala is a tram stop located Mula Mustafe Bašeskije, opposite the Sacred Heart Cathedral, which it takes its name from. The Cathedral is a prominent Neo-Gothic landmark completed in 1889.

Tehnička škola is a tram stop located on Halida Kajtaza, next to the junction with Zmaja od Bosne. The stop is next to the Technical High School, which it is named after.

Željeznička stanica is a tram terminus located outside Sarajevo’s main railway station, on Trg žrtava Srebrenice.

On the return journey towards Baščaršija, trams serve Muzej and Marijin Dvor before following the riverside route through the following stops.
Latinska ćuprija is a tram stop located on Obala Kulina bana, beside the Latin Bridge over the Miljacka River.Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie were assassinated on 28 June 1914 near the bridge’s northern end, triggering the crisis that led to the First World War.
