Tram line 20 in Zürich

About Line 20

Line 20 of the Zürich tram system runs between Bahnhof Altstetten in Zürich and Killwangen, Bahnhof in the Canton of Aargau, serving the communities of Schlieren, Urdorf, Dietikon and Spreitenbach along the Limmat Valley.

Line 20 operates over the Limmattalbahn, a 13.4 km light rail route with 27 stops whose full route opened in December 2022. The service is operated by Aargau Verkehr AG and provides connections with the S-Bahn at Bahnhof Altstetten, Schlieren, Dietikon and Killwangen.

Route of Zürich Line 20

Starting at Killwangen, Bahnhof, line 20 runs alongside Bahnhofstrasse before passing beneath Zürcherstrasse and joining Landstrasse, where the tracks continue between the carriageways of the road. The line serves Spreitenbach, West and Spreitenbach, Umwelt Arena before reaching Spreitenbach, Shoppi Tivoli beneath the Shoppi Tivoli shopping centre.

From Spreitenbach, Shoppi Tivoli, the line crosses Zentrumstrasse and continues alongside Industriestrasse through Spreitenbach, IKEA and Spreitenbach, Kreuzäcker. It then crosses Mutschellenstrasse on a bridge and continues on reserved light rail infrastructure through Dietikon, Niderfeld to Dietikon, Maienweg.

From Dietikon, Maienweg, line 20 crosses Ueberlandstrasse and runs along Badenerstrasse and Zentralstrasse through Dietikon, Oetwilerstrasse and Dietikon, Zentrum before turning through Kirchplatz and Bahnhofplatz to Dietikon, Bahnhof.

Leaving Dietikon, Bahnhof, the line follows Poststrasse and Zürcherstrasse through Dietikon, Schäflibach before turning onto Birmensdorferstrasse. It continues through Dietikon, Birmensdorferstrasse and Urdorf, Urdorf-Nord, then turns onto In der Luberzen and passes Urdorf, Kantiallee before reaching Schlieren, Spital Limmattal.

After Schlieren, Spital Limmattal, the line passes through a tunnel and emerges onto Badenerstrasse, continuing through Schlieren, Reitmen and Schlieren, Kesslerplatz to Schlieren, Geissweid.

From Schlieren, Geissweid, line 20 runs through Schlieren, Zentrum/Bahnhof and continues along Zürcherstrasse through Schlieren, Wagonsfabrik, Schlieren, Gasometerbrücke and Schlieren, Mülligen before entering Zürich and serving Micafil and Farbhof.

At Farbhof, the line turns onto Hohlstrasse and continues through Seidelhof before reaching its Zürich terminus at Bahnhof Altstetten.
