About Line 4

Line 4 forms a circular route around Montpellier’s city centre, linking Gare Saint-Roch with the western edge of the historic Écusson, Corum, Antigone and the city hall. Its southern section serves the residential districts of Prés d’Arènes, including Saint-Martin and La Rauze.

The line opened in April 2012 as a partially completed ring. The remaining section around the western side of the historic centre opened in July 2016, completing the circle through Saint-Guilhem – Courreau, Peyrou – Arc de Triomphe and Albert 1er – Jardin des Plantes.

Services operate in both directions, designated Sens A for clockwise journeys and Sens B for anticlockwise journeys. Garcia Lorca is the starting and finishing point for both directions. The line’s distinctive gold-coloured tram decoration was designed by Christian Lacroix.

Route clockwise from Garcia Lorca

The stop list follows Sens A, clockwise from Garcia Lorca. Trams run through Restanque and Saint-Martin – Le Jam before crossing the railway tracks and joining Line 2 towards Nouveau Saint-Roch and Rondelet.

At Gare Saint-Roch – République, the route turns along Rue de la République to Observatoire. It then follows the boulevards around the western edge of the Écusson, serving Saint-Guilhem – Courreau, Peyrou – Arc de Triomphe and Albert 1er – Jardin des Plantes. This section is shared with Line 5, which diverges at Albert 1er.

Line 4 continues through Louis Blanc – Agora de la Danse to Corum, then leaves the other tram routes to serve Les Aubes and Pompignane. It rejoins Line 1 towards Place de l’Europe and Rives du Lez, where connections are available with Line 3 at the separate Rives du Lez – Consuls de Mer stop.

Continuing towards the city hall, Line 4 passes through Moularès (Hôtel de Ville) without stopping. It then leaves the tracks used by Lines 1 and 3 and serves its own Georges Frêche – Hôtel de Ville stop. The final section runs through La Rauze before returning to Garcia Lorca to complete the circuit.
