Tram line 2 in Montpellier
Stops: 28
Route length: approximately 17.5 km
End-to-end journey time: approximately 52 minutes
Line 2 links the northeastern suburbs of Montpellier with Saint-Jean-de-Védas to the southwest, passing through Castelnau-le-Lez and the city centre. Its trams are recognisable by their colourful flower decoration.
Opened in December 2006, the line originally followed a longer route east of the centre. In April 2012, it was diverted through Place de la Comédie, providing a more direct central connection. Some services terminate at Notre-Dame de Sablassou or Sabines, giving the central section a more frequent service than the outer sections.
From Jacou, the line heads south past Georges Pompidou and Via Domitia before turning west through Aube Rouge to Notre-Dame de Sablassou. It follows Avenue de l’Europe through Castelnau-le-Lez, then crosses the Lez into Montpellier.
The route continues through Saint-Lazare, Aiguelongue and Beaux-Arts to Corum. It shares tracks with Line 1 through Comédie to Gare Saint-Roch, then runs through Rondelet to Nouveau Saint-Roch on a section shared with Line 4.
Beyond Nouveau Saint-Roch, the line serves the residential districts of Saint-Cléophas, Lemasson, Mas Drevon and Croix d’Argent before reaching Sabines. The outer southwestern section follows part of the former Montpellier to Paulhan railway corridor, serving Victoire 2 and La Condamine before turning towards Saint-Jean le Sec and the terminus at Saint-Jean de Védas Centre.
