Line A opened on 23 June 2012 as Brest's first modern tram line. It runs from Porte de Plouzané through Recouvrance and the city centre to Pontanézen, where services divide between Porte de Gouesnou and Porte de Guipavas.
The two eastern termini are on separate branches. A journey between them requires a change of tram at Pontanézen.

From Porte de Plouzané, the route passes Fort Montbarey and Brest Arena before running through the Les Capucins and Recouvrance districts. It crosses the Penfeld on Pont de Recouvrance, then continues past Brest Castle and along Rue de Siam to Place de la Liberté.
From Liberté, trams climb Rue Jean Jaurès through Saint-Martin and Pilier Rouge to Place de Strasbourg. The route continues through Menez Paul and Europe to Pontanézen, the final stop shared by both eastern branches.
The Gouesnou branch runs through Mesmerrien and Kergaradec to Porte de Gouesnou. The Guipavas branch follows Boulevard de l'Europe through Eau Blanche and Kerlaurent to Porte de Guipavas.
