Tram line 9 in Zürich
Tram line 9 in Zürich runs between the terminus stops of Hirzenbach, which is on the eastern edge of the city and Triemli in the west of the city. The entire journey takes about 47 minutes and on week days and Saturday, there is a tram every 7 or 8 minutes during peak times, rising to every 10 every minutes on Sunday.
The terminus stop at Hirzenbach has a turning loop that encircles a group of allotments, giving the stop a very rural feel. From Hirzenbach, the line first travels roughly north for a short distance, before turning left at the Altried stop and then following Überlandstrasse and Winterthurerstrasse, until it joins with line 7 just before Schwamendingerplatz. After Schwamendingerplatz, the line goes underground, using the tunnels and three stops of the never completed Zürich U-Bahn metro, before re-emerging above ground at Milchbuck. After Milchbuck, the line turns left and runs along the side of Irchelpark to Universität Irchel, after which it turns right and rejoins Winterthurerstrasse, passing a number of intermediate stops, until it arrives at Seilbahn Rigiblick, where there is an interchange with the funicular railway that runs to the top of the Zürichberg.
From Seilbahn Rigiblick, the line follows Universitätstrasse and then Rämistrasse past ETH / Universitätsspital and Kunsthaus, to Bellevue, from where it crosses Quaibrücke and then turns right to go up Bahnhofstrasse to Paradeplatz. Leaving Paradeplatz, the line turns right along Talacker and Sihlstrasse to Stauffacher. Shortly After departing Stauffacher, at Zweierplatz, the line joins Birmensdorfstrasse, going past Bahnhof Wiedikon to Schmiede Wiedikon, where it turns right and continues along Birmensdorfstrasse past a number of intermediate stops, until it arrives at the terminus at Triemli.
