Tram line 5 in Zürich

About Line 5

Tram line 5 in Zürich runs between different terminus stops on different days. On weekdays and Saturdays, the line runs between Laubegg and Kirche Flutern, but on Sundays, it starts at Bahnhof Enge and runs all the way to Zoo. The journey from Laubegg to Kirche Flutern takes about 22 minutes and the Sunday service between Bahnhof Enge and Zoo takes about 20 minutes. On weekdays and Saturday, there is a tram every 7 or 8 minutes during peak times, rising to every 10 every minutes on Sunday.

Route of Zürich line 5

Starting at Laubegg, the line initially runs downhill past Saalsporthalle, before turning left and passing the Sihlcity complex. From there, the line runs along Bederstrasse, before turning almost back on itself for the main stop at Bahnhof Enge and them turning left to run down General-Wille-Strasse towards the lake and then along the side of the lake on General-Guisan-Quai. After crossing Quaibrüke and stopping at Bellevue, the line begins to ascend as it passes Kunsthaus and Kantonsschule, before turning right onto Gloriastrasse as it ascends to Kirche Flutern, where the line ends during the week. On Sundays, the line continues, passing intermediate stops as it climbs the steep hils to the terminus at Zoo.

Laubegg

Laubegg is the terminus stop for line 5 and also serves tram lines 13 and 17 as well as bus 89 and night bus N5. The turning loop for line 5 is a distance away from the stop and it located where the stop was originally, before it was moved closer to the Brunaupark shopping complex.

Saalsporthalle

Saalsporthalle is named after the sports hall of the same name that is closeby, which offers facilites for a variety of ball sports. The stop serves tram lines 5, 13 and 17 and bus lines 89 and 200. The stop is also an interchange with the SBB station of the same name.

Note: Saalsporthalle is only served by tram line 5 on week days and Saturdays.

Sihlcity Nord

Sihlcity Nord serves tram lines 5, 13 and 17 and bus lines 72 and 200 as well as night bus N12. The stop is named after the Sihlcity complex it serves, which includes the shopping center, a cinema, restaurants and a hotel and library.

The stop at Bürkliplatz is an interchange between bus, tram and ship. Tram lines 2, 5, 8, 9 and 11 stop here, as well as buses 161 and 165 and ferry 3730 leaves from the ferry terminal on the lake.
