Route of Zürich line 4

Starting at Bahnhof Altstetten Nord, which is located to the north of the SBB station it is named after, the line initially runs through a number of intermediate stops, in what is a primarily mixed business and residential area. Eventually, the line arrives at the stop of Schiffbau, where is turns left and joins with the recently extended tram line 8, to under the elevated dual carriageway to the major interchange of Escher-Wyss-Platz, where it turns right and runs along Limmatstrasse, past the end of the infamous Langstrasse and on towards the main station and the city. After leaving the stop of Sihlquai / HB, the line runs alongside the platforms of Zürich Hauptbahnhof and the Landesmuseum, before running around the end of the main station building and the stop at Bahnhofquai / HB, from where it turns left to Central. From Central, the line runs along probably the most picturesque tram line in Zürich, along Limmatquai, with the historical buildings of Zürich's Altstadt (old town) on eitherside. The line then arrives at the interchange at Bellevue and then runs along the side of Sechseläutenplatz, before travelling down Seefeldstrasse, past a number of smaller stops to its final destination at Bahnhof Tiefenbrunnen.
