Tram line 21 in Zürich

About Line 21

Tram line 21 in Zürich is run by the Zürich Tram Museum over the city's tram lines. The line runs every half an hour on Saturday and Sunday, from the museum's location next to the Burgwies stop to Zürich HB and then back to the museum. The journey to the main station takes about 16 minutes and the one back to the musuem about 21 minutes.

Starting from the Burgwies stop, which is located next to the musuem, the line follows Forchstrasse and Kreuzbühlstrasse to Bahnhof Stadelhofen, from where it goes through Stadelhoferplatz and on to Bellevue. From Bellevue, the line travels along Limmatquai, through the city's old town to Central. From Central, the line crosses Bahnhofbrücke to Bahnhofplatz / HB, where the line stops. The return journey to the museum starts from the line's special stop Usteristrasse, from where it travels down Bahnhofstrasse, past Paradeplatz to Bürkliplatz, then across Quaibrücke to Bellevue. From Bellevue, the line retraces its route back up Kreuzbühlstrasse and Forchstrasse to Burgwies. On Saturday, the line continues form Burgwies to Rehalp.

Rathaus

Rathaus is an intermediate stop on tram lines 4 and 15. The stop is named after the Rathaus (Town Hall) that sits atop the edge of the Limmat. The stop is in the heart of Zürich's Altstadt (old town), which runs either side of the Limmat, with the buildings of many of Zürich's historic Guilds identified by their standards.

Rudolf-Brun-Brücke

Rudolf-Brun-Brücke is an intermediate stop on tram lines 4 and 15. The stop is located on the Limmatquai and close to the bridge it is named after, which itself is named after the first mayor of Zürich. Looking across the Limmat, you will see the historic buildings of Zürich's old town (Altstadt) and the Lindenhof that rises above them.

Central

Known as Leonhardplatz until the 1950, Cental is a major public transport interchange, with tram lines 3, 4, 6, 7, 10 and 15 all stopping here, as well as bus lines 31 and 45 and night buses N2, N4, N5, N6, N7, N8 and N78. On one side of the interchange, you can also find the Polybahn funicular railway that runs up to the buldings of ETH Zurich.

Bahnhofplatz / HB

Bahnhofplatz/HB is situated in the square outside of Zurich Hauptbahnhof (HB) and is an interchange for tram lines 3, 6, 10, 14 and 17, bus line 31 and night buses N2 and N8.

After finishing the journey to Zürich HB, the tram travels empty down Gessnerallee and then on to Usteristrasse, running along the side of Globus. The return journey to Burgwies starts at the Museum Line stop at the junction of Usteristrasse and Bahnhofstrasse.

Usteristrasse

Usteristrasse is not a formal stop on the main Zürich tram lines, but serves as a starting point for the Museum Line (Line 21) on its journey back to Burgweis. The stop is located at the end of Usteristrasse, where it joins Bahnhofstrasse.

Rennweg is an intermediate stop on tram lines 6, 7, 11, 13 and 17. The stop is named after the nearby street of the same name that runs from Bahnhofstrasse up to the Lindenhof, and is one of oldest streets in the old town of Zürich.
