Tram line 17 in Zürich

About Line 17

For the majority of weekdays and at weekends, tram line 17 in Zürich runs between the terminus stops of Werdhölzli in the northwest of the city and Bahnhofplatz / HB in the center of the city, but for 2 hours every weekday morning and evening, the line travels down Bahnhofstrasse and on to Albisgütli at the southern edge of the city. The shortened journey takes about 21 minutes and the full route to Albisgütli about 39 minutes and there is a tram every 7 or 8 minutes during the week and on Saturdays, rising to every 10 minutes on Sundays.

Route of Zürich line 17

From the terminus at Werdhölzli, tram line 17 travels down Bändliweg towards the city, until it turns left and runs along side, until it reaches Tüffenwies, where the line turns right and runs alongside Hardhof, with its single family homes and abundant sports facilities, until it reaches Hardturm. From Hardturm, the line runs along Hardturmstrasse towards the city, passing intermediate stops, until it crosses Escher-Wyss-Platz and follows Limmatstrasse towards the city, passing Limmatplatz, until it reaches Sihlquai / HB, from where it runs around the eastern end of Zürich Hauptbahnhof, following Museumstrasse, Bahnhofquai and on to Bahnhofplatz, from where it either goes to its terminus stop at Bahnhofplatz / HB or turns left onto Bahnhofstrasse to Bahnhofstrasse / HB.

During the extended route, the line travels from Bahnhofstrasse / HB, the line travels down Bahnhofstrasse until it turns right on to Paradeplatz, from where it follows Bleicherweg until it arrives at Bahnhof Enge / Bederstrasse. From Bahnhof Enge / Bederstrasse, the line runs along Bederstrasse, past Sihlcity Nord, before joining Giesshübelstrasse and turning right at Saalsportehalle and climing to Laubegg. After Laubegg, the line turns left on to Uetlibergstrasse, passing Uetlihof, site of the large Credit Suisse offices and the reason for its extended running during the morning and evening rush hours, before arriving at the terminus stop of Albisgütli, which is situated at the edge of the forest that covers the flank of Uetliberg.

Note: Bahnhofplatz / HB is the terminus for line 17 outside of the weekday morning and evening periods when the line runs to Albisgütli. From Bahnhofplatz / HB, the tram moves to a siding until it starts its next run from Bahnhofstrasse / HB
