From Bahnhofplatz / HB, the line crosses Bahnhofbrücke to Cnetral and then climbs Weinbergstrasse and Leonhardstrasse to ETH / Universitätsspital. From ETH / Universitätsspital, the line follows Universitätstrasse and Winterthurerstrasse to Universität Irchel. From Universität Irchel, the line makes the short journey down Irchelstrasse, before turning right to Milchbuck and then along Schaffhauserstrasse towards Oerlikon.
After Stopping at Sternen Oerlikon, the line continues along Schaffhauserstrasse to the stop at Bahnhof Oerlikon Ost, from where it turns right down Binzmühlestrasse and then left onto Thurgauerstrasse, stopping at Leutschenbach, Oerlikerhus, Glattpark and Glattbrugg, Lindberghplatz before the line enters a tunnel, which emerges at the next stop Glattbrugg, Bahnhof. After leaving Glattbrugg, the line becomes more of a light railway, running on a track separated from the roads. Initially the line runs at street level, but after leaving Glattbrugg, Unterriet, the track raises and an elevated section takes it past the stop at Kloten Balsberg, Bahnhof, before the line returns to street level and arrives at the main airport stop at Zürich Flughafen, Bahnhof. From Zürich Flughafen, Bahnhof, the line runs a short distance to its final stop and the turning loop at Zürich Flughafen, Fracht.
