About Estonia

Estonia is officially known as the Republic of Estonia and is located in Northern Europe, and is bordered by Latvia to the south and Russia to the east. As well as its mainland area, Estonia also comprises over 2200 islands in the Baltic Sea. Estonia is the 129th largest country in the world, with an area of 45,227km2 and the 151st most populous, with a population of 1,323,824. Estonia is a former Soviet Bloc country and gained its independence in 1991, following the peaceful Singing Revolution. The capital is Tallinn, which is also the most populous city in the country.
