Sidi Bel Abbès (سيدي بلعباس in Arabic) is located in the north of Algeria and is the capital of Sidi Bel Abbès province. The city is named after Sidi bel Abbass, noble man who is buried in the city and is an important area of vineyards, market gardens and grain fields. The city also has a university.

Sidi Bel Abbès's modern day tramway is operated by SETRAM, which operates all of the tram systems in Algeria and also maintains them. The network's single line runs between Gare Routière Sud in the southwest of the city and Les Cascades in the east of the city. The line opened in 2017.
